Puppy Care/Upbringing
Breeder's diary:
When raising puppies, I will keep a breeding diary, which can provide important information about the health and nutritional status of the puppies and the mother.
I will record:
- sex
- type of identifier (puppy marking)
- birth weight
- age
- body weight
- weight gain
- health status of puppies and mother
- development (opening of eyes, ears, teething, etc.)
- food intake and condition of excreta
- responses to ENS and ESI
- reactions to the sensory pathway
- reactions to different sounds, surfaces, etc.
- temperament and character changes
A copy of this diary will be provided to the owners of the puppies.
Immediately after birth:
I keep the puppies warm (puppies should have a body temperature of 35,0 - 37,2 °C 24 hours after birth), clean and clear the airways (check breathing), dry them, weigh them, mark them ( collar, lanyard or food colour), feed them (leave the puppy to find its own way to the mammary gland, attach it to the teats or feed him with artificial milk).
I check for birth defects (cleft palate, harelip, umbilical hernia, open fontanelles, etc.), metabolic disorders (hypoglycemia, hypothermia and dehydration), diseases.
First three weeks:
They spend their first 2 weeks in a whelping box with their mother in my room, so I can easily supervise and be available if needed. I try to give the puppies and their mothers peace and lots of undisturbed sleep.
Mothers are given plenty of food and supplements for pregnant bitches to make sure they have plenty of breast milk and vitamins.
From the 3rd to the 16th day puppies are tested/exposed with/to Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction. ENS consists of 5 simple „exercises’’ each lasting for no more than 5 seconds. To help aid them in fulfilling their natural abilities to the highest level.
Benefits of Early Neurological Stimulation:
-
Improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate):
-
Stronger heartbeats:
-
Stronger adrenal glands:
-
More tolerance to stress:
-
Greater resistance to disease:
Benefits of Early Scent Introduction:
-
Better results in scent work:
-
Helps puppies with their nose awareness and confidence:
-
It enhances their ability to identify and react to scents:
